Sport / Gymnasts put on a show at annual club competition
SHETLAND Gymnastics Club held its annual club competition at Clickimin over the weekend.
On Saturday the four-piece gymnasts competed on floor, bars, beam and vault over three different difficulty levels, while the floor routine had to be adapted due to the lack of sprung floor.
In the brass category, seven young gymnasts ranging from nine to 11 years old competed.
On the floor Emilia Strachanowska finished first, with Thea Tallack second and Rosie Goddard third. On vault Steevi Johnston was first, with Strachanowka second and Orla Robertson third.
Goddard was first on beam, with Strachanowska second and Robertson third.
The last piece was bars with Tallack finishing first, with Goddard second and Strachanowska third.
All four scores were added together for an overall score, with Strachanowska first, Tallack second and Goddard third.
The next level was zinc. There was only one gymnast in this category, with Cari Sutherland performing on all four apparatus to win gold.
The highest level saw four gymnasts, aged between 11 and 16, competing Island Games-level skills.
On floor Oliwia Strachanowska placed first, with Adel Szucs second and Julia Strachanowska third. On vault, Szucs was first, Julia second and Oliwia third.
It was Julia first on beam, with Zara Nicolson second and Szucs third. The last apparatus was bars, which Julia won with Szucs second and Oliwia third.
Overall, the copper winner was Julia Strachanowska, with Adel Szucs in silver and Oliwia in bronze.
On Sunday the competition began with the youngest girls competing in the seven and under age group.
Lyla Mullay was the age seven winner after winning both the floor and vault events, with Annie Farquhar second and Snow Williamson third.
Phoebe Kerr won the age eight category after winning on floor and vault, with Rivah Manson taking silver and Mia Nicolson bronze.

The biggest age group was the nine year old girls, with Tamar Tait taking gold on the floor and Emma MacDougall for the vault.
When scores for floor and vault were added together, the overall age nine winner was Alia Dick with Emma MacDougall and Maya Nicolson sharing second and Kaela Mikolajczak placing third.
The overall age 10 winner was Darci Johnston after winning the floor event and placing joint second on vault. Silver went to Willow Tozer and bronze to Freya Horton.
The age 11 girls event was won by Faye Peterson, who won the vault event and finished second on floor. Second overall was Taylor Sherwood, with Eilidh Reid third.
There were three levels in the age 12+ category. The overall girls beginners event was won by Macy Williamson, with Teagan Ritch in second and Amie Coleman third.
There was only one gymnast in the intermediate category, Jessica Mercer, who won overall.
Chloe Hughson was the only gymnast entered in the advanced group, and won overall. She also had the best of any floor routine in the whole competition with the fewest deductions.
It was then over to the boys, and Leon Mikolajczak won the age seven and under boys overall with his floor and vault routines.
Garry Summers won the age eight category overall, with Erland Gear second and River Sandison third.
In the age nine boys, Jacob Jackson placed first on floor, vault and overall and Titus Mercer was send on floor, vault and overall.
Ali Summers competed in the age 11 category and won overall and Rory Peterson won the age 12+ category.
Shetland Gymnastics Club said it had been a “very successful couple of days for the club”, adding that next year would hopefully “be even bigger and better”.
