Weather / Some schools closed due to wintry road conditions

THE FIRST snow of the winter is causing transport disruptions and has resulted in some school closures.

Brae High School, Aith Junior High School and the primary schools at Lunnasting, North Roe, Ollaberry, Urafirth, Nesting and Mossbank will all stay closed today (Wednesday).

A long list of school transport service are also not running this morning. Details are available on the school transport voicebank on 01595 745743.

A number of bus services (No. 9 Walls to Lerwick, No.4 Lerwick to Scalloway, No.21 Lerwick to Hillswick and No. 23 Lerwick to Toft) are also currently suspended.

The Skeld and Nesting feeder services have been cancelled.

Reviews of these services will take place later this morning.

Last night heavy snow showers and strong north westerly winds are affecting travel and road conditions across the isles.

There were some reports of heavy snow and impassable roads.

The is a yellow weather warning for snow in place until Thursday.
