Community / Recovery walk marches through Lerwick
THE ANNUAL Shetland Recovery Walk took to the streets of Lerwick earlier today (Saturday).
Joined by the Bigton Samba Band, there was a celebratory atmosphere as the brightly coloured walk paraded the mile-long journey.
It is one of a series of events designed to mark Recovery Month, which aims to celebrate and support recovery in all of its forms.
The walk started at Pitt Lane’s Shetland Recovery Hub and Community Network, which offers support for people affected by substance use, at 2pm this afternoon.
The walk is designed to honour those lost through the use of alcohol and other drugs, to celebrate the gains made by those in recovery and to build connections and develop support networks.
Shetland Recovery Hub and Community Network manager Amanda Pearson told BBC Radio Shetland that it was important to recognise that “recovery is possible” and that “people do recover”.
“It’s really important that we celebrate the people that have actually got to the place that they want to be,” she said.
More information on the Shetland Recovery Hub and Community Network can be found here.
Meanwhile anyone looking for support locally is also encouraged to visit the Shetland Alcohol and Drug Partnership website.
