News / Yellow weather warning issued for start of week

A YELLOW wind warning has been issued for Shetland for Monday and the start of Tuesday morning.

The Met Office said that strong winds were being forecast between 6am on Monday and 6am the following morning.

That is due to storm Floris, which is set to bring a “spell of unusually windy weather for the time of year” across the north of the UK early next week.

It said the strongest winds were likely across Scotland on Monday afternoon and night, adding though that there was still some uncertainty around the tracking of Floris.

Westerly gusts of between 40-50mph are being forecast, with inland gusts potentially reaching as high as 85mph along exposed Scottish coastlines, the Met Office has warned.

“Winds will first ease in the west during later Monday but remaining very strong overnight until early Tuesday in the east,” it said.

“Heavy rain may also contribute to the disruption in places.”
