POLICE area commander Chris Sewell is set to be promoted to the rank of chief inspector at a ceremony next week.

Sewell moved to Shetland in October 2024, having been promoted to the role of acting chief inspector the month before.

He is set to stay in the isles following his promotion, having signalled his desire to remain in Shetland to Police Scotland.

He will be formally promoted to his new title on Friday 18 July at the Scottish Police College in Tulliallan.

Sewell, who is originally from Girvan in South Ayrshire, said he was “absolutely delighted” with his promotion and continued role in Shetland.

“It’s a real privilege to serve this unique and welcoming community, and I look forward to building on the strong partnerships I’ve developed to keep Shetland safe,” he added.

The area commander replaced the outgoing Stuart Clemenson last year, and has 21 years of police service.
