History / Veterans and Norwegian crews march together through Lerwick
A PROCESSION featuring crews from the visiting Norwegian vessels and World War Two veterans has marched to the Lerwick Town Hall to attend a formal ceremony.
Lerwick Pipe Band led the procession, which marched from Lerwick Harbour up to the town hall tonight (Wednesday).
People lined both sides of the pavement around the harbour to watch and pay tribute to those marching.
Crews, veterans and guests were all part of the procession, which also passed through Harbour Street and Fort Charlotte.
They were welcomed at the town hall by Shetland Islands Council convener Andrea Manson for an evening civic reception.
Earlier in the day a moving service and wreath laying ceremony took place at Lunna Kirk in Vidlin, with Lunna House playing a key role in the Shetland Bus wartime effort.
The VE Day celebrations continue tomorrow (Thursday), which marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two in Europe.
Shetland Museum and Archives will host a VE Day celebration on Thursday night, while Lerwick shop Blyde Welcome and its staff will transport themselves back to the 1940s for the day.
