Business / Accountancy firm Bon Accord to change hands

BON Accord Accountancy is set to change ownership and its name as its current owner steps into retirement.

The accountancy firm’s Shetland branch, which is based at North Ness Business Park in Lerwick, will become Mackay Johnson on 1 July.

That comes as current owner Allan Jamieson steps into a “well-earned retirement”.

The business will be taken forward by long-standing team members Robbie Mackay and Denise Johnson, both of whom are fully qualified chartered accountants and have spent their entire professional careers with the firm.

The pair have a combined 30 years of experience, and Bon Accord said they would bring “continuity, deep local knowledge, and trusted relationships with clients”.

The firm’s 11 employees will remain in their roles, and the new leadership said they would continue investing in the next generation — bringing in young school leavers and graduates and supporting their growth within the company.

“We’ve always believed in building from within,” said Mackay.

“Just as we were supported through our training, we will continue to provide training opportunities for new recruits for the future of the business and accountancy in Shetland.”

Johnson said their clients could expect “the same personal, professional service” when the firm changes hands later this year.

“This is a continuation, not a change,” she said.

“We’re proud to carry the business forward in the same spirit it was founded by Allan Jamieson in 1998.” “Allan has been a steady hand and mentor, he will leave an enduring legacy,” added Mackay.

“His professionalism and commitment to both clients and staff have shaped the business into what it is today. His contribution to accountancy in Shetland will be felt for many years to come.”

Departing owner Jamieson said Mackay and Johnson had an in-depth knowledge of their clients and how the business runs day-to-day.

“They’ve grown with the firm, and I’ve seen them become skilled professionals who understand our clients’ needs,” he said.

“I’m confident the business is in very safe and capable hands.”
