Letters / Amused and puzzled

I must confess to being both amused and puzzled by the method in which Shetland Arts is holding its AGM once again this year.

This is because their wholly online AGM is in itself a basic contradiction of the meaning of the word ‘General’ in that particular acronym.

In that context, doesn’t General mean ‘widespread, not limited in terms of subject, application, activity’ etc?

Are they confusing it with the military definition of the word ‘General’ where the term means ‘an army officer of very high rank’?

Only in exceptional circumstances can their statements be questioned or held accountable.

I think we should be told.

Shetland Arts’ 2024 online AGM will be held on Thursday 26 September at 5.30pm. Those wishing to attend are requested to email admin@shetlandarts.org by Tuesday.
