Community / People invited to attend ‘important’ Bigton shop meeting
ANYONE with an interest in the Bigton shop is invited to attend a meeting next week as staff and volunteer numbers decrease.
The event in question is the annual members meeting of Bigton Community Enterprise Ltd, which runs the shop.
Enterprise chair Brendan Hall said the meeting, due to be held at the Bigton Hall on Monday 30 October at 7.30pm, is particularly significant.
An event page on Facebook said the meeting is open to anyone in the community and beyond “who would like to see the Bigton Community Shop continue to maintain both retail and Post Office”.
“The management committee of Bigton Community Enterprise Ltd are always keen to have as many Members of the Society as possible attend our Annual Members Meeting (AMM),” Hall said.
“However, we feel our next AMM on 30 October is particularly important as, after another very successful year, a number of staff and volunteers have recently left or are intending to stand down shortly.
“As an organisation that has received over 10 years of tremendous support from folk in our community – as members, customers and volunteers – we are keen to involve people in discussion of where the shop goes next.”
The Bigton shop has been open since 2012, and it is owned and operated by the community.
