POLLING stations are now open in the Shetland Islands Council elections.

People have up to 10pm to cast their vote.

With between two and four seats in each ward, folk are asked to rank the candidates in order of preference.

Only five of the seven wards in Shetland are going to the ballot box after North Isles and Shetland North were uncontested.

They are Shetland Central, Shetland South Shetland West, Lerwick North and Lerwick South. A list of polling stations in each ward can be found here.

The results will be declared on Friday morning at Lerwick Town Hall starting with Shetland West, expected to be before 10am, followed by Shetland Central and Shetland South at around 11am and the two Lerwick wards by midday.

Shetland News will provide live, rolling coverage through the morning on Friday.
