As a daily player of the brilliant WIRDLE game I have been making more use of Shetland dialect dictionaries than I ever have; I came across this word today in one of my many perusals:

KIEV, v.a. to contend; to strive against an opponent.

Sadly, so very, tragically, apt in our current times.
