Community / People invited to ‘pray for Ukraine’ as church opens doors

CHURCHES in Shetland will be uniting today (Friday) to pray for Ukraine and its people.

St Margaret’s Church on Lerwick’s St Olaf Street will be open from 9am to 5pm, with a special mass being celebrated at 1.15pm.

Local church leaders said folk are welcome to come in at any time during the day to pray or simply to sit in silence.

It comes after Russia began an invasion of neighbouring Ukraine on Thursday in a move that has been strongly condemned by leaders across the world.
