Nature / Partial solar eclipse visible in some parts of the isles

Partial solar eclipse seen from Whalsay. Photo: Magnus Polson

ALTHOUGH the full solar eclipse could only be seen further north, Shetland was the best place in the UK to experience the natural phenomenon.

As the shadow of the moon moved in front of the sun, obstructing up to 40 per cent, keen sky watchers were able to get some good photos of the event.

Sadly the eclipse was not visible for everybody in the isles due to cloud cover.

A photo of the partial eclipse sent in by Steve Birrell.
