THE SOUTH Mainland Up Helly Aa committee has confirmed it is moving the event to 2022 in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

The festival, which had already been postponed from 2020, was due to take place on 12 March.

However, the decision has now been made to hold the event on the second Friday of March 2022, if restrictions allow.

It follows previous announcements from other Up Helly Aas to hold off until 2022.
