Heavy rain causes water to leak into hospital

REPAIRS are being carried out at the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick after heavy rain caused water to leak into the building.

The Gilbert Bain Hospital.

NHS Shetland said on Tuesday morning that there was water ingress in the main hospital corridor, A&E and the outpatients waiting area.

All patient services and clinics are running as usual and contingency plans are in place if the water damage becomes more extensive.

Staff are working to find the source of the ingress and are undertaking remedial repairs.
