News / Diazepam tablets wrongly delivered to beauty salon
A MAN’s attempts to buy over 1,600 tablets of diazepam were scuppered after they were wrongly delivered to a beauty salon underneath his flat, Lerwick Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday.
Gregory Willmitt, of Commercial Street in Lerwick, was fined £1,500 after admitting attempting to possess – and possessing – the class C drug on 1 February.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the package was accidentally opened in the Sleeping Beauty salon on Commercial Street because it had a nearly identical address to the 31-year-old’s flat above.
They opened the package and discovered a large number of tablets, which staff thought would have been for pharmacy Boots next door.
This was not the case, however, and the police were alerted before a search warrant was obtained for Willmitt’s flat.
The man acknowledged that he had ordered the 1,640 tablets, valued at £1 each, which had been sent in the package.
Police also found nearly 300 tablets in Willmitt’s flat.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said the scaffolder had become addicted to diazepam after being prescribed it.
He said his client was now clean of the drug following the offence.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank said while it was accepted that the tablets were for personal use only, possession of controlled drugs was a serious matter.
