News / Music for care homes

THE SOUND of music will be flowing through Shetland’s care homes next week as a team of musicians head north to perform concerts throughout the isles.

Music in Hospitals & Care Scotland will make its fourth annual visit to Shetland between 24-28 September to bring Celtic, Scots and traditional music to healthcare settings.

Established in Scotland in 1980, the organisation has held over 49,000 concerts from people in care.

It aims to bring the benefits of live music to people of all ages living with an illness or disability.

It has received funding from Shetland Gas Plant operator Total E&P UK Limited (TEP UK) for its tour of the north east of Scotland and the isles.

Director Claire Bennett said: “We are delighted to have the continued support of TEP UK this year during our 70th anniversary year.

“The long term support we receive from TEP UK means we can bring the joy of live music to older people, their families and carers in remote and isolated areas in the north east and Shetland who otherwise would struggle to access such wonderful interactions with live music.”
