News / Bressay ferry back in service
THE BRESSAY ferry Leirna has resumed her service after council engineers repaired a defective engine component.
A dive survey of the hull of the vessel found no damage and sea trials have been successful.
The service was suspended earlier on Tuesday after the ferry lost power and grounded as she neared the Bressay ferry terminal.
Lerwick Port Authority received a call from the 35m long ferry about 10.55am and the pilot boat Knab took the vessel under tow and back to the ferry terminal in Lerwick.
Shetland Islands Council said it would like to apologise to passengers for the disruption on the Bressay route and thanked the crew of the Knab for their assistance.
