News / Beer festival keen to promote responsible drinking again
SHETLAND’s beer festival is set to return for a second year to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, with responsible drinking again a key message from its organisers.
The event will take place again at the Gilbertson Park Games Hall in Lerwick from 31 August to 2 September.
Refreshments on offer will include craft beers and ciders from local and visiting suppliers, as well as other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, while there will also be live music, a barbecue, children’s activities and tester sessions.
Last year’s beer festival raised almost £4,000.
Chairman of Cancer Research UK Shetland Martin Henderson said: “After the success of last year’s event, and this year’s Relay for Life, we hope to keep the fundraising momentum for CRUK going via this second beer festival, which we hope will now become an annual event.
“Equally our aim is to promote responsible drinking alongside a range of beers etc that are perhaps not entirely commonplace in local social circles.
“Of course, everyone, both young and old, coming together and having a good time is another outcome we hope for. If last year’s event is anything to go by it should be another great weekend.”
Tickets for the beer festival will go on sale through the Shetland Arts box office from 10am on Friday (27 July).
They can be purchased online or on the phone via 01595 745500 or over the counter at Mareel.
