News / Unite announce Aberdeen airport strike
PEOPLE planning to travel on days likely to be affected by a strike at Aberdeen airport are being offered the chance to change their reservation.
Loganair said on Tuesday that the company was already working on a contingency plan, just hours after workers at Aberdeen airport overwhelmingly voted in favour of strike action.
If the strike over a pay offer goes ahead, around 170 Unite members, including security and airfield operating staff, will stage a walkout on 20 July as well as 2 and 16 August.
A spokesman for Loganair said: “While the dates were only announced this morning (Tuesday), Loganair is already working on a contingency plan if the strikes do go ahead.
“This would involve, firstly, offering customers a free change of reservation onto other dates or routes, and then operating a reduced schedule of Aberdeen flights into alternative airports including Inverness and Dundee.”
In a statement, Aberdeen International Airport said: “We have made contact with ACAS which has agreed to mediate between both parties.
“We are seeking a suitable date to continue our discussions in an attempt to reach a mutually agreeable position.”
Unite regional officer Wullie Wallace said: “Unite remain open to further discussions with a view to resolving the dispute.”
