News / Timetable changes afoot

Council ferries are currently cash-only, but moves are being made to bring card and contactless payments on board.

A SPECIAL meeting of Shetland transport partnership ZetTrans will be held later this month to discuss proposed changes to the north mainland bus and North Isles ferry timetables.

Chairman Ryan Thomson said the bus timetable for the north needs to be changed to accommodate the new school timetable, which sees Shetland’s secondary schools open slightly longer Monday to Thursday, with a shorter day on Friday.

However, if the North Isles ferry timetable is not changed too then the public service bus will not be at Toft to pick folk up, which then has a knock-on effect to the Bluemull sound route between Yell and Unst too.

Thomson said: “There are ongoing discussions being had regarding the ferry service. We need to consult further with users of the ferry so it can work for all regular users and commuters before any final decision is made.”

The ZetTrans meeting will be held on 20 July.
