News / Released from custody
A MAN was released from custody after appearing at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday accused of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards his wife.
William Ratter, of Lerwick’s St Olaf Street, pleaded not guilty to shouting and swearing at the woman at an address in Foula on 22 April last year, instructing her to commit suicide, shouting grossly offensive comments at her and behaving aggressively towards her.
The 48 year old also denied failing to comply with a previously imposed court order by procuring his mother to phone the woman on his behalf at an address in Foula on or between 11 September and 30 October.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie did not oppose a bail application, but he asked for two special conditions to be imposed on Ratter.
Honorary sheriff Susan Brunton bailed him on the condition that he does not enter Foula and does not approach or contact the complainer.
Ratter was given an intermediate diet of 9 May and a trial diet of 10 May.
