News / Lidl to stock local gin
A LOCAL distillery has been given the opportunity to cash in on the surge in craft spirit production across the UK.
Unst-based Shetland Distillery is one of just six artisan producers from across Scotland that have been selected by Lidl to participate in supermarket’s in-store Scottish gin festival.
The company’s Simmer Gin will be available from 94 stores across Scotland as of 3 May. The nearest Lidl store is in Kirkwall.
Shetland Distillery’s Debbie Strang said she was thrilled to be collaborating with Lidl for the first time in the company’s history.
“We are showcasing our unique Simmer Gin which is a refreshing aromatic gin created in celebration of Shetland’s long summer twilight known as the Simmer Dim,” she said.
“The long summer days and lasting amber skies at sunset influence the eight botanicals in our recipe including orange peel and liquorice root.”
