News / Wind puts paid to ferry sailings
NORTHLINK has cancelled its sailings in both directions between Aberdeen and Shetland on Thursday due to strong winds.
MV Hjaltland, which is expected to dock in Aberdeen at around 11am on Thursday, had been due to sail for Kirkwall and Lerwick at 5pm tonight. MV Hrossey had been due to leave Lerwick for Aberdeen at 7pm.
Both freight services have also been cancelled, and the shipping company is warning there is a “probability of disruptions” between now and Saturday – with Friday night’s northbound and southbound sailings both under review with a “high possibility of cancellation”. An update will follow on Friday morning.
According to the Met Office wind speeds will regularly be gusting in excess of 50mph in the next 48 hours.
