A SHETLAND man who wrote about his experiences of being in war will be the subject of a talk next week.

The event – which will be held at the Old Library in Lerwick on Tuesday (6 February) – will look at the work of Jack Peterson, whose poetry was used in last year’s Shetland Youth Theatre production In the Still of the Night Have We Wept.

A talk and readings will be delivered by Dr Mark Smith, who is from the Shetland Museum and Archives, and it forms part of a joint project to bring Shetland’s war history to a wider audience in conjunction with the Public Library Improvement Fund.

Smith said: “Jack Peterson was one of the few Shetlanders to produce creative writing about his war experiences.

“After serving in the Seaforth Highlanders from 1916-1919, Peterson wrote two books of poems which reflect on his experiences. He also wrote a novel which was never published.”

The free event will take place between 4pm and 5pm.
