News / Woman used mother’s debit card to pay for online gambling
A FORTY year old woman who admitted using her mother’s debit card to spend over £7,500 on online gambling has had her sentenced deferred for social work reports.
Hazel Bruce, of Mackay Road, Inverness, pleaded guilty at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday to committing fraud on various occasions on or between 13 July and 22 August last year at an address in Lerwick and elsewhere.
The total value of services the 40 year old obtained from gaming operator Rank Group when she pretended to be the owner of the debit card was £7,549.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the woman’s elderly mother had not yet been compensated.
Sheriff Philip Mann called for social work reports to be prepared and warned Bruce that the court would have to look at “all available options”.
The case was deferred to 14 February, when Bruce’s defence will give representation.
