News / Gabby’s café makes anti-racism stand against Trump

A GLASGOW-based café co-run by Shetlander Gabby Cluness has delivered its verdict on the US’s new president elect – by selling an “ugly and unhealthy” Donald Trump cake and donating the proceeds to anti-racism charity Hope Not Hate.

Many in this country looked on aghast as Trump was elected on Tuesday following a lengthy campaign in which the Republican candidate frequently resorted to xenophobia.

Milk Café, on Victoria Road in Glasgow’s south side, is run by Gabby and her friend Angela Ireland as a social enterprise. It was set up to help asylum seekers and refugees integrate into society.

And following an election result widely viewed as a major setback to progressive politics, the café posted an image of the suitably unsightly confection on Instagram stating: “All money raised from this ugly and unhealthy cake will go to #hopenothate an anti racism charity.”
