News / Ministerial meeting requested
THE ONLINE campaign challenging Loganair’s steep air fares to the Scottish islands have written to islands and transport minister Derek Mackay requesting a meeting to raise their concerns.
The group wrote to Mackay on Friday after Loganair offered to meet up with the group some time this month.
Shetland resident Scott Preston, who started the Facebook campaign last Sunday, said: “We are keen to sit down with Mr Mackay to discuss our campaign and other issues that those flying to and from the isles experience.
“Our campaign has grown at a phenomenal rate, with almost 14,000 supporters backing us in just five days.
“Loganair, to their credit, have now acknowledged the group and agreed to meet with us and we are looking to coordinate everyone’s diary.
“We are hopeful that the minister will take notice of the campaign and find time to sit down with us.”
Many supporters of the campaign have emailed the minister directly through the group’s campaign page to add to the pressure for a meeting.
