News / Scottish Ensemble to play three concerts
TICKETS for a series of classical music concerts at Mareel have just gone on sale from the Shetland Box Office.
The Scottish Ensemble has been booked to return to Shetland for three concerts due to take place over a seven month period starting in September.
The first concert will take place on 29 September as husband and wife duo Jonathan Morton and Clio Gould take to the violin and viola to perform pieces from the likes of Mozart and Bach.
The second concert, set for 26 February 2016, will feature quintets from Mozart and Brahms, whilst the final show – on 21 April – will see violinist Cheryl Crockett and cellist Alison Lawrance run through duos.
The latter will feature a violin and viola arrangement of Halvorsen’s Passacaglia. The Scottish Ensemble, the UK’s only professional string orchestra, previously visited Shetland in 2013.
General manager Fraser Anderson said that they hope to “build upon the connections” garnered during their four-day residency in August 2013.
“With the nature of chamber music concerts, this series is a chance for Shetland audiences to really get to know our individual players, who will be performing a wide-ranging selection of quintets and duos,” he said.
The group, who feature twelve musicians in total and are based in Glasgow, will also hold another short residency in the isles next year.
Bryan Peterson of Shetland Arts added that the agency hoped to developed a closer relationship with the ensemble with the aim of offering more regular programmes of classical music.
Tickets for the concerts are available here.
