News / Scam warning
TRADING standards officers in Shetland are warning local bed and breakfast owners to be on their guard if they contacted by an agency aggressively selling advertising.
The unsolicited calls claim to be selling advertising space to accompany a feature they are doing on the BBC drama Shetland.
Trading standards said they were pushing for credit card details for full payment of the adverts.
A spokesman said: “If you have given your card details you should contact your credit card provider or bank.
“This type of company tends to target one business sector before moving on to another, so other types of business should remain alert to this in the coming weeks and months.”
The two-part dramatisation of Ann Cleeves’ crime novel Red Bones will be broadcast on BBC television on 10 and 11 March.
