Features / A Christmas trip down Memory Lane

December 1st Photo - Do you recognise these buildings?

To celebrate the time-honoured tradition of shopping, Shetland News, in partnership with Home Furnishing, Lerwick Building Centre, www.walkonit.com, Harry’s Department Store and Shetland Museum and Archives, have launched a special Christmas advent calendar competition.

Every day in December an old image of a former retail outlet in Shetland will be added to our slideshow until 25 December. All readers have to do is work out who occupies that building today and complete all 25 questions. Competition closes on 5 January 2012.

  • 1st prize:  a Firefox multi-fuel stove, worth £395, provided by Lerwick Building Centre;
  • 2nd prize: a £300 voucher to be used with www.walkonit.com
  • 3rd prize: a £200 voucher to be used in Harry’s Department Store.

In addition, our advent calendar offers exclusive daily discounts at Home Furnishing, in Lerwick. Come back to our advent calendar daily, print your voucher and hurry to Home Furnishing as these great deals are only valid for 24 hours and while stocks last! For full details of this great deal please click here.

Shetland News is asking its many readers to consider start paying for their dose of the latest local news delivered straight to their PC, tablet or mobile phone.

Journalism comes at a price and because that price is not being paid in today’s rapidly changing media world, most publishers - national and local - struggle financially despite very healthy audience figures.

Most online publishers have started charging for access to their websites, others have chosen a different route. Shetland News currently has  over 600 supporters  who are all making small voluntary financial contributions. All funds go towards covering our cost and improving the service further.

Your contribution will ensure Shetland News can: -

  • Bring you the headlines as they happen;
  • Stay editorially independent;
  • Give a voice to the community;
  • Grow site traffic further;
  • Research and publish more in-depth news, including more Shetland Lives features.

If you appreciate what we do and feel strongly about impartial local journalism, then please become a supporter of Shetland News by either making a single payment or monthly subscription.
