News / Film director looks for star bar

THE SEARCH is on for a bar in Shetland to feature in a major motion picture being filmed in the islands next spring.

Movie director Jim Brown is bringing Hollywood stars and an entire film production team to the tiny island of Fetlar to film Between Weathers.

The director is now looking for a local bar that could play a central role in the film, but insists that it is on the islands themselves.

He has invited local people to nominate their favourite hostelry and send in pictures to help make the final choice during his next scouting trip to Shetland.

Between Weathers is decribed as “a modern day David and Goliath story set against the stunning and magical backdrop of the Shetland Isles, where a disappearing way of life is fought for tooth and nail, against a corporate giant unable to see beyond the dollar signs”.

Mr Brown said: “I’m looking for a bar with a strong identity. Somewhere that’s been around for years, just like the characters that drink in it.

“We all know how famous the Pennan Inn became in Local Hero. Here’s a chance for the same thing to happen in Shetland!”

Nominations can be emailed to locations@betweenweathers.com by 8 October, preferably including photographs and details of where it is. “Our only criteria is that the pub must be on the Shetland Isles!” he said.

More information about the film can be found at www.betweenweathers.com.
