Shetland CAB pays tribute to ‘one-off’ Sue Beer

She has been a member of the local Citizens Advice Bureau for almost three decades

TRIBUTES have been paid to Sue Beer, the long-serving “one-off” chair of Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) in Shetland, following her death yesterday (Thursday).

Beer was a member of the Shetland CAB branch for 28 years, and was currently serving as the board’s chairwoman.

Tributes have been paid to Sue Beer.

CAB Shetland manager Della Armstrong said Beer had served several terms as the board’s chair, as well as serving as a trustee on the board of Citizens Advice Scotland (CAS).

Armstrong said she would be “greatly missed”.

“Sue was a passionate believer in the work of Shetland Islands CAB, and her dedication and commitment to the network, both locally and nationally, were truly admirable.

“She gave so much of her time, knowledge and energy to supporting the work we do.

“Sue will be greatly missed, not only for her contribution to Shetland Islands CAB and the wider network, but also for her knowledge, wisdom and guidance.

“Our deepest sympathies go to Sue’s family.”

Beer’s fellow Shetland CAB trustee George Smith described her as a “one-off” who would be “truly missed by all of us who knew her”.

“Sue was absolutely resolute in her commitment to, and belief in, the work of the bureau and the difference made to so many people in Shetland,” he said.

“Sue was a very effective chair of the board as well as being a great support to everyone involved with Shetland Islands CAB.”

CAS chief executive Derek Mitchell also paid tribute to Beer.

“Anyone who came into contact with Sue recognised a great strength of purpose, someone who cared deeply about people and the communities she lived in and someone who gave so much back to anyone fortunate enough to come across her,” he said.

“Her work also transcended the Shetland Islands and for that, CAS will always be grateful.”
