Letters / Will she also take credit for the SNP’s poor record of governance?
I have been a Liberal Democrat for nearly 20 years and worked for the party for a lot of my adult life. I am also proud to call Shetland my home for the last five and half years, and a year in 2015/16.
So, it’s no surprise I’m going to vote for Emma Macdonald. My bias is clear; I believe in Emma as a liberal. I will vote for her as a Liberal.
Yet I’m compelled this time to do something that, in the 20 years of elections I’ve volunteered in, managed and fundraised for, I have never spoken out publicly against the candidate. No matter the circumstances.
Yet this time, I feel compelled to write and warn of the dangers of Ms Goodlad.
Ms Goodlad is quick to take credit for any perceived victory, as if she alone is responsible. But will she be taking credit in the same way for:
- The SNPs’ relentless prioritisation of independence as their only and number one goal
- The fiasco of a ferry with painted on windows for Nicola Sturgeon, and the subsequent protests of island communities on the west coast of Scotland
- Scotland’s disgraceful fall down the education league tables under the SNP
- The centralisation of our services away from the islands. Power hoarded in Holyrood.
Remember when you come to vote, Hannah Mary is standing as an SNP candidate on an independence ticket and the SNP’s objectively poor record of governance.
Own the good and the bad, Ms Goodlad, you owe it to the people.
Andrew Emmerson
