THE FIRST full men’s rugby game on the new 3G all-weather pitch at Clickimin had to be called off because the pitch was frozen.

The men’s side were due to host Ross Sutherland on Saturday, but the game has had to be rescheduled after hard frost over Thursday and Friday night.

The game has been moved to 28 February.

FOOTBALLER Lewis Harkness returned to be a thorn in the side of Orkney with a double against them in the North Caledonian League on Saturday.

Harkness, playing for Golspie Sutherland, scored twice as they beat Orkney 4-1 in Kirkwall.

Keeper Henry Oldbury was also in the sticks for Golspie, helping them to defeat their old rivals.

George Robesten was a late substitute as his Weston-super-Mare side fell to an unexpected 1-0 defeat to Chelmsford in the National League South.

Robesten was brought on for the final 10 minutes, but saw his new side concede a late penalty to drop down to third in the table.

Lisa Goudie was a substitute as her Westdyke Ladies team beat Edinburgh Caledonia convincingly 4-1 in the Scottish League One over the weekend.

The result means Westdyke sit ninth in the 11-team table, now eight points clear of Edinburgh.

NEIL Arthur was first across the line in the latest round of winter cross-country races at Shetland Golf Club in Dale on Sunday.

There was a strong turnout of runners once again, with Arthur crossing the line in a time of 26:22 to win the senior men’s race.

He was followed in second by Ronan Bourke (27:26), and Matthew Cox in third (30:27).

Manouk Wilkinson was the winner of the women’s race, crossing the line in 32:02, just pipping Christie Ford in 32:13.

Lynsey Henderson was third with a time of 34:48.

TWO SHETLAND netball teams were entered into a tournament in Dundee over the weekend.

These were made up of players from competitive and development squads, and a couple of players who now live on the mainland.

Shetland Storm finished the competition in third place, while Shetland Swifts were fifth.

The Swifts’ player’s player was Paula Williamson, while the team’s coaches named Ciara Kelly as their player of the tournament.

For Storm, Anne Maver and Erin Leask were joint-player’s player and Sarah Johnston was coaches player of the tournament.
