A FORMER pupil of the Anderson High School in Lerwick has received a prestigious award from the Royal Society of Chemistry Scotland.
Abbie Taylor was given the Dr Craig Grey Memorial Award by the society for her exceptional performance in the SQA advanced higher chemistry project.
Anderson High School said on Facebook that her “dedication, hard work and enthusiasm for chemistry truly stood out and this award celebrates her outstanding achievement”.
Taylor, who was in secondary six in the Anderson’s “class of 2025”, is currently studying chemistry at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.
SHETLAND’s next MSP will walk into a role that has just had a £3,200 pay rise when they are elected in May.
MSPs will get a rise of 4.3 per cent from April, with the salary increasing from £74,507 to £77,710.
A Scottish Parliament spokesperson said salaries have not kept up with inflation in recent years.
The next round of Scottish Parliament elections take in place in May, with current Shetland MSP Beatrice Wishart set to stand down from her seat.
FISHERMEN, vessel crew or those looking to enter the industry are being encouraged to apply for funding to improve their skills, safety knowledge and career prospects.
Seafish, the public body that supports the UK seafood industry, has funding – via the Maritime and Coastguard Agency – available for people working on UK-registered fishing vessels to help cover the cost of a wide range of training courses.

Nominations can be submitted through a form available here, where nominators are asked to provide a brief description of how their contact helped them. The deadline for nominations is 27 February.
