MOST schools in Shetland are set to reopen tomorrow (Wednesday) after an additional two days shut due to wintry weather.

However Baltasound, Mid Yell and Sandwick junior high schools will remain closed.

The Burravoe, Cunningsburgh, Dunrossness, Foula, Nesting and North Roe primary schools will also be shut.

Some individual arrangements may be in place – including later openings – at other schools. Parents and carers will be contacted directly with details of local arrangements.

All arrangements are subject to change depending on overnight weather conditions.

Temperatures are expected to again be close to freezing overnight, Shetland Islands Council said, with ice likely on untreated surfaces such as footpaths and pavements.

Pedestrians and drivers are asked to take care on footpaths and roads on Wednesday morning, with parents and carers reminded they are responsible for deciding whether to send their children to school.

It is unlikely that all school transport will be running as normal, the SIC added, with parents and carers asked to check the school transport voicebank for any updates on 01595 745743.

Islesburgh Community Centre and Café will be open, along with the council’s drop-in youth hub at 66/68 Commercial Road. However, youth clubs will continue to be closed.

The Eric Gray@Seafield centre will be open tomorrow too.
