ONE OF Scotland’s top swimmers is coming to Shetland this Friday for a question-and-answer session.
Kara Hanlon, who is a four-times British champion as well as a Scottish record holder, will appear at the Clickimin on Friday at 6.30pm for the Q&A.
Hanlon, who swims for the Western Isles, has competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games as well as World Championships, and is a 17-time medallist at the Island Games.
Shetland Swimming Association, in partnership with the Clickimin, will host the question-and-answer session with Hanlon on Friday night, with athletes, coaches and parents invited to come along and hear from her.
THREE of Shetland’s League Cup-winning stars are set for moves to play for League One clubs in the Scottish Women’s Federation.
Lisa Goudie, who netted twice in Shetland’s 7-0 League Cup final win over Sutherland, will join Westdyke Community Club for the League One campaign.
She will be joined by defender Tahlia Leslie, with both players part of the Shetland team at this summer’s Island Games.
Shetland team-mate and keeper Katie Anderson will take on the pair for Hutchison Vale this season, after being loaned from Dryburgh Athletic in the Championship.
POSTIES picked up the first trophy of the new darts season after beating Sandwick Arrows in the final of the Viking Shield on Friday night.

The Shetland Darts Association (SDA) campaign kicked off with the obligatory curtain-raising competition, which sees teams of six split in two to play double in, double out legs of 2,001.
The final eight teams met in the Lerwick Legion on Friday for finals night, with Sandwick Arrows beating Bar Fines 2-1, Trumpton seeing off The Funkhousers 2-0, Posties beating Whalsay 2-1 and Ajax knocking out Welcome Inn 2-0.
It was best of three legs again in the semi-finals, with Sandwick Arrows edging Trumpton 2-1 and Posties beating Ajax 2-0.
In the final, which was played over the best of five legs, Posties overcame Sandwick Arrows 3-1 to collect the Viking Shield.
The SDA thanked Lerwick Legion for hosting the event.
KEEPER Henry Oldbury helped Golspie Sutherland through to the semi-finals of football’s Jock Mackay cup on Saturday.
Golspie overcame Inverness Thistle in a seven-goal thriller, winning 4-3 to progress to the last four of the competition, with Oldbury starting the match in goals.
Next up for Golspie is an away trip to take on Alness in the North Caledonian League on Saturday.
WINS for both Hot Geckos and Diggers keep them in touching distance at the top of the mixed volleyball indoor league.
Diggers faced Rexel first up last week, with strong serving from Thomas Clark helped Diggers open up a seven-point lead early on.
Good passing from Rexel youngsters Ellie Nicolson and Robbie Polson helped prevent Diggers from extending their lead by much as the match progressed.
Diggers further ahead, but at 19–10 Kevin Jones broke their run with a powerful attack, giving Rexel back the serve.
A great back-court hit from Rexel’s Jill Hibbert saved her side at 23–12, but this did not faze Diggers and they finished the set 25–13.
In set two it was much tighter, with the teams very close as Diggers edged ahead to 12-10.
Rexel fought hard and finally took the lead for the first time at 14-13, with the rest of the set going point-for-point.
Nathan Reid’s powerful hit put Diggers briefly ahead at 22–21, but the score was quickly levelled again at 24–all.
The rally of the set came at 25–all, and it proved decisive as Diggers won the point and went on to take the set 27–25.
Diggers, clearly boosted by their success in set two, started the final set strongly, but Rexel were still very much in touch at 7-3.
Joel Wishart continued with a remarkable serving streak, landing 12 in a row. This allowed Diggers to steadily build an unassailable lead and take the third set convincingly, 25–7.
MVPs for Diggers were Joel Wishart and Anne Wood, while Kevin Jones and Donna Murray took the honours for Rexel.
Hot Geckos faced Venture in the final game of the night, and Venture got off to a great start following a strong serve from Karl Sinclair.
Geckos soon rallied to level the score, and eventually edged ahead in a tight set to take the lead.
Venture worked hard to draw level again but a run of precise serves from Deb Morgan pushed them to 24 points, and Geckos eventually closed out the set 25–20.
Venture began set two strongly, with Luke Bennett scooping up a great ball off the net.
Strong serving from Bobby Laurenson brought Hot Geckos back into contention however, while a clever tip from Keira Tulloch over the net caught Venture off guard.
With one point remaining Tulloch’s serve went wide, allowing Venture a late opportunity, but Hot Geckos held their nerve to take the set 25–23.
The third set saw Venture open strongly, with Jurgen Kurtz delivering a superb first serve. Venture communicated well to create some strong attacks and take an early lead.
Determined to maintain their lead, Sinclair hammered several balls down the middle, but Hot Geckos worked hard to stay in the rallies.
With one point to go Tulloch again found a gap to put Venture under pressure, but Venture responded at the key moment to edge the set 25–23 for a 2-1 Geckos win.
Players of the match were Wayne Leask and Keira Tulloch for Hot Geckos, and Luke Bennett and Louise Birnie for Venture.
