THE SUMBURGH Head lighthouse visitor centre will be closed tomorrow (Tuesday) due to roadworks at Grutness.

Shetland Islands Council said the southernmost point of the A970 at Grutness will be closed to all traffic tomorrow to allow a duct to be laid underneath the road, before resurfacing work.

The road will be closed to traffic between 10am and 5pm, including vehicle access to Sumburgh Lighthouse. Local property owners have been informed.

The Sumburgh Head visitor centre will reopen from 10am on Wednesday.

The council said it would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by these essential works.

There is also work ongoing at the nearby Grutness ferry terminal as part of the new Fair Isle ferry project.
