News / Shetland Pride makes urgent plea for volunteers ahead of 2025 celebration

WITH Shetland Pride 2025 returning next weekend, organisers have issued an urgent call for more volunteers to help make the annual celebration a success.

The Shetland Pride Parade will kick off at 11am from the Market Cross on Saturday 14 June, winding its way along Commercial Street, turning up Burgh Road, and finishing in Gilbertson Park.

There the Pride village will run until 5pm, but the committee still need more volunteers to help marshal.

The parade, which in recent years attracted between around 450 participants, is expected to be another dazzling display of colour. Organisers are hoping to see even bigger numbers this year, especially if the weather is kind.

Sarah Cooper, secretary of Shetland Pride, said: “We’ve had a good number of responses to our calls for volunteers so far but unfortunately, we still need more.

“We need a total of 50 volunteers to help us marshal the parade safely, and if we don’t get the numbers, we can’t put the parade on.

“That’s not a position any of us want to be in, so if people have time to help us, we’d really appreciate it.”

Volunteers are asked to fill in a short online form and will be required to attend a brief training session ahead of the event, which can be scheduled with the committee.

The Pride Village in Gilbertson Park will be a family-friendly space with fun activities for children, a variety of local stallholders, and teas served in Gilbertson Hall throughout the day.

It’s set to be a welcoming area where people of all ages can gather and celebrate inclusivity, identity, and community.

In the evening, attention turns to two ticketed events. The over 18s Pride party will take place at Sound Hall, while the youth party will be held at the Legion, both starting from 8pm.
