Business / Bookshop to remain in business
THE SHETLAND Times Bookshop in Lerwick is to remain open, its owners have confirmed.
The bookshop was part of the of Shetland Times Ltd businesses and assets that were put up for sale in May.
There was widespread concern in the community that Shetland’s only bookshop could close.
But owner Robert Wishart told readers of the Shetland Times newspaper in Friday’s publication that the bookshop and the book publishing arm of the company will remain in business.
It was also confirmed there that has been interest in the Shetland Times newspaper, which will continue to at least the end of June.
However printing of the newspaper at the Gremista offices will not continue beyond that point.
Meanwhile the Studio Graphic Design & Print Shop department of the business will close on 30 June.
In a public notice in Friday’s paper Wishart said it was “sad” to be closing print operations after “153 years service to the community”.
He thanked people for their support over this time but said the “print business just isn’t what it used to be”.
The long-standing family-owned business was established in 1872 and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2022.
