News / Coastguard responding to possible sick diver near Toft

A red and white Coastguard helicopter in flight against a clear blue sky.

A COASTGUARD rescue helicopter is transferring a diver with possible decompression sickness to hospital in Aberdeen.

Coastguard rescue teams and an ambulance responded to the reports at Toft this afternoon (Thursday).

The coastguard rescue helicopter landed on the road near to the Toft ferry terminal at around 2.20pm.

An ambulance and Lerwick coastguard crews were also on the scene.

The coastguard confirmed just after 3pm it was now flying the diver for treatment in Aberdeen.

Bus company R. Robertson and Son posted on Facebook that the 2.20pm bus from Toft to Lerwick had been delayed to emergency services dealing with an incident on a boat.

It said its bus was stuck until the coastguard helicopter took off, and said it would update people when the bus was back on the move.
