Emergency services / Police ask for information as search for missing man continues

POLICE are asking for help as they try to trace a missing man who was last seen at around 9am on Friday (27 December).

The coastguard helicopter joined the search late last night and covered areas such as Scousburgh, as well as the Lerwick Lifeboat.

An initial release from the police on Friday night said it was believed Ian Napier had been walking and swimming in the South Mainland.

The 58-year-old is described as 5ft 10” and of stocky build. It is not known what he was wearing.

Chief Inspector Donna Allan said: “We are growing increasingly concerned for the welfare of Ian, it is out of character for him not to be in touch with his family.

“He is known to go walking and swimming in the south of Shetland.

“Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Ian is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting 2936 of 27 December, 2024.”
