Transport / Work continues on new combined cycle and footpath
WORK is ongoing on a short new combined cycle and footpath in Lerwick.
It is located on the green area of land off the Tesco roundabout.
A spokesperson for Shetland Islands Council said the combined path will “connect to existing active travel routes at South Lochside and the Sletts”.
Once the short section is completed, the adjacent footway will be removed. A new bus layby will also be created next to the new path, on the south side.
The project has received funding from the Scottish Government.
A number of other active travel projects are in line go ahead in Shetland in the near future thanks to the funding, including a feasibility study for a cycle route between Scalloway and Tingwall.
