Education / Schools to close on Tuesday due to weather

UHI Shetland’s Lerwick and Scalloway campuses will also be closed

NEARLY all schools and early learning settings in Shetland will be closed tomorrow (Tuesday) due to the weather.

Only Fair Isle Primary School will remain open. UHI Shetland’s Lerwick and Scalloway college campuses will also be closed.

A number of schools including Brae, Aith and Whalsay closed early on Monday amid the wintry weather.

But parents have now been told that all will be closed to pupils on Tuesday amid uncertainty over travel and power supplies.

Shetland Islands Council youth clubs will also be closed, as will the Eric Gray Centre at Seafield will also be closed tomorrow.

Freezing conditions are expected again overnight with further wintry snow showers in the morning.

A number of power cuts are currently affecting the isles and in most instances SSEN is saying supply may only be restored by 11am on Tuesday morning.
