FLIGHTS to Fair Isle and Foula will continue to fly from Sumburgh for the rest of the week as problems persist with the fire engine at Tingwall Airport.

A post on the Airtask Shetland Facebook page said there will be a “restricted service” in place during this time.

Meanwhile Fair Isle is closer to normality again after the Good Shepherd ferry arrived back in the island today (Monday).

She had been out of service for a month after being unable to return to the isle following a refit due to the weather conditions.

Mobile signal also returned to the isle late last week after a fault with the mast there affected services.

The fire engine fault at Tingwall first affected services last Monday, closing the airport.

Passenger flights have since run from Sumburgh instead, although planes able to carry freight from Tingwall. In some instances a shuttle bus has been available to take folk to Sumburgh.

A spokesperson said Shetland Islands Council is looking at alternative solutions to the fire cover issue to ensure the airport is fully operational again.
