Court / Jail for breaching non-harassment orders

A LOCAL man has been sent to prison for one year after breaching two non-harassment orders.

Appearing at Lerwick Sheriff Court via video link from Grampian Prison on Wednesday morning, Anthony Jamieson admitted committing the breach at an address in Lerwick on 27 July this year.

Two non-harassment orders, one issued by Aberdeen Sheriff Court on 28 August 2020 and the other by the court in Lerwick on 13 October last year, bars the 57-year-old from contacting or attempting to contact the woman in question.

Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said police were acting on information they had received when they found Jamieson and the woman at the same address in town.

The fiscal added police were faced with a chaotic alcohol-fuelled situation where the woman “appeared to protect the accused”.

Defence solicitor Tommy Allan said his client understands that court orders must be adhered to, adding that Jamieson should have left the address when the woman turned up unexpectedly.

“In the cold light of day, he understands that there is a reason for court orders,” he said.

Allan added that his client had the chance to detox while in custody and hopes to be able to get his life back in order.

But Sheriff Ian Cruickshank said there was no alternative to a custodial sentence, particularly since this was not the first time Jamieson had breached the court order.

The 12-month jail sentence was backdated to 22 July when Jamieson was first taken into custody.
