Emergency services / Happy ending for Jack the dog after cliff fall
COASTGUARD rescue officers came to the aid of a dog which had made its way down a rocky inlet at the Ness of Sound in Lerwick on Friday evening.
Rescue teams from Lerwick and Sumburgh, as well as the Lerwick Lifeboat, were tasked at around 6.15pm.
Coastguard officers wore drysuits and were able to wade into the inlet to rescue 11-year-old staffie Jack.
The dog was taken in an animal rescue bag and reunited with his “very relieved” owner, the coastguard said.
It comes not long after another dog was rescued in the south mainland at the end of September following a fall down cliffs.
People are reminded that if they have an emergency on Shetland’s coastline they can dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.
