News / Cable fault causes power cut

NEARLY 1,000 customers lost power on Wednesday morning following a fault with an underground cable in the centre of Lerwick.

The fault occurred shortly before 8am, with premises being reconnected in phases through to 10am.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said the cable in question runs between Victoria Pier and Water Lane.

Town centre organisation Living Lerwick said a number of businesses were among the 975 customers affected by the power cut.

SSEN staff are due to repair the cable this morning, with the company apologising for the disruption caused.
