News / Boat overwhelmed by waves
A SMALL pleasure boat moored in the small boat harbour at Victoria Pier in Lerwick has sunk after being overwhelmed by waves and spray on Tuesday morning.
Harbour master Callum Grains said the crew of the tug Kebister had now recovered the boat from the water and taken it to the port’s Holmsgarth depot.
It is believed the fibreglass boat is the same speedboat that was involved in an incident in the harbour on Sunday when a 26-year-old man fell overboard the boat and swam ashore.
The speedboat was later recovered by the Bressay ferry Leirna.
Shetland is currently being battered by southerly gale force winds, with even stronger winds forecast for later in the week.
